Acoustic performance standards for Schools

The Acoustic performance standards for the priority schools building programme guide was published by the UK Education Funding Agency in September 2012. Prof Shield was the editor of the new guide which is a continuation of her work on Building Bulletin 93.

New Guide to be Published

Research into the effects of noise on primary school children in London led to Prof Shield being appointed as editor of ‘Building Bulletin 93’ (BB93), published by the Department for Education and Skills in 2003.In 2011 Prof Shield took a leading role in the Institute of Acoustics ‘Sound Schools’ campaign which has resulted in the Government doing a ‘u turn’ in relation to the school Building Regulations and deciding to retain legislation on the acoustic design of schools in the Schools Premises Regulations. Look out for a revision of Building Bulletin 93, to be published in October 2012.
